OUR STORY

We are often asked how we got our start in raising miniature horses. One pretty spring day during March of 1990, my husband and I observed the annual ritual of a country ride to see the Texas wildflowers. During our trip, as we were enjoying the Bluebonnets and Indian Paint Brushes, we stopped at a saddle shop in Brenham where I saw picture postcards of these little horses. Asking about the little ones we were informed they could be seen a short distance away at the Monastery of St. Clare

Upon arrival it was love at first sight for me. We did a lot of looking, picture taking, petting and asking questions. Much to our amazement the Monastery planned to raffle a weanling at their Spring Fling in May. Purchasing a number of raffle tickets, we looked forward to the "Fling" eagerly. Finally the big day dawned and we arrived at the Monastery of St. Clare to enjoy the show and many ways in which to enjoy these little horses. Needless to say we came away from the raffle winners with our first "mini", Monastery Panda Boy.

Monastery Panda Boy was six months old, eager to learn and full of himself. We enjoyed working with and teaching him the many aspects that he would use in and out of the show ring. "Panda" also started our little herd of minis and we used him as one of our herd sire's to produce predominately black or black & white homozygous fillies.
